State Rep. Blaine Galliher heard Ragland had a problem with baseballs flying into the splash pad next to the ball field. The city did not have the money to put up netting to stop the balls, so he dropped in on a City Council meeting Monday with a $5,000 check.

“I know this is a liability issue,” he said, “and I hope and pray something never happens, but you never know. It’s a serious matter.”

Mayor Lanis White and Councilman Britt Hathcox oversees the Park & Recreation Department, agreed and promised that the money would be used to install a safety net.

Now that’s what we call proactive.
