Maybe it is because, in a time when many areas of the state, the nation and the world are in decline, St. Clair County is continuing to embark on new projects. On Friday, Gov. Robert Bentley was personally on hand to help break ground for the Nufab Rebar facility in Riverside, which will bring more than 100 jobs to the county’s eastern border.
“I was supposed to be somewhere else today, but when I was told there were 100 new jobs in St. Clair County, I said, ‘I want to go there,’” Bentley said.
These types of projects do not land in this area by accident. Nufab Rebar’s decision to locate in Riverside — and, by extension, in St. Clair County — is the direct result of cooperation between officials on the local and county levels. The civic leadership in the city, along with the county commission and the county’s Economic Development Council, all deserve credit for Friday’s celebration.
Mayors from other municipalities around the county even showed up Friday to applaud Riverside’s new addition. We cannot help but join them in applauding.
