Letter: Odenville officials ignoring serious issue in town

On Thursday, June 28, for the first time in many months, the Town of Odenville had an article printed in the St. Clair Times (“Odenville gets grant for shelter”). The article is loaded with good deeds from our mayor and city council on what they are, and have done.

Granted, some of them were needed or deserved. But I wonder, with the talk and near finish of the new fire station, — as other businesses were told they had to build turn lanes that never happened — whether the new fire station will also be held to that standard.

Also, over a year ago the Times printed an editorial on condemned property, which still stands. Spending or giving more money to buy more books or another copier could be better used to bring down blight and clean up Odenville.

It is election time, so people, don’t hold your breath as far as seeing these things get done. Either run for office or at least get out and vote.

Gary Hayes, Odenville
