Christmas away from home can be a lonely place. Christmas in faraway lands like Afghanistan and Iraq, where American troops are stationed in service to the nation, can be even lonelier.

That’s why Ashville Elementary students decided that this Christmas, they would send a little ‘home’ to the troops overseas.

More than 300 Christmas cards, penned personally by the students, have made their way to service men and women in hopes of reminding them they are being thought of in a special way this Christmas and to thank them for their sacrifice.

We commend Ashville Elementary School for its thoughtful gift to the troops, and we join them in thanking all our men and women serving in uniform this Christmas for their commitment to protect and defend the ideals we hold so dear.
