Since winning the county tournament recently, the Ashville Lady Bulldogs have played four games and won three of them. They have defeated Cherokee County twice and Etowah. Sandwiched in between the three wins was a loss to Douglas.

Ashville is currently ranked No. 6 in the state in Class 4A and they have a record of 25-2.

Ashville 42, Cherokee County 32

A 16-0 run by the Lady Bulldogs in the second period was the difference maker as Ashville beat Cherokee County 42-32.

Trailing 7-4 after one quarter of play, Ashville’s defense held Cherokee County scoreless in the second frame while scoring 16 points to take a 20-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Cherokee County made a game of it in the third stanza as they outscored Ashville 13-4 to make it 24-20 after three quarters of play. Ashville went on to win 42-32.

Jacie Tipton led Ashville with 12 points. Bianca Bothwell pumped in 10 points while Kim Fuller added 8 points. Taylor Coffee chipped in 3 points while Destiny Montgomery, Ebonie Brooks, Lori Stephenson and Kristen O’Barr had 2 points each. Courtney Elders finished the game with 1 point.

Douglas 63, Ashville 54

For only the second time this season, the Lady Bulldogs tasted defeat as they lost to Douglas 63-54.

Ashville led 16-14 after the first period and 38-34 at intermission. The two teams scored 10 points each in the third stanza to make it 48-44.

The final 8 minutes would be devastating for the Lady Bulldogs as they were outscored 19-6 and went on to lose 63-54.

Bothwell led Ashville with 14 points. Tipton added 12 points while Montgomery totaled 9 points. Fuller chipped in 8 points while Elders scored 6 points. Coffee and Brooks had 2 points while Stormy Penland finished the game with 1 point.

Ashville 35, Etowah 26

In one of the lowest scoring games of the year for Ashville, the Lady Bulldogs beat Etowah 35-26.

Etowah led 4-3 after the first quarter and then they were tied 10-10 at halftime.

Ashville led 19-18 going into the fourth quarter and they held on to win 35-26.

Brooks led Ashville with 8 points. Close behind was O’Barr with 7 points while Fuller and Bothwell had 6 points each. Stephenson added 4 points while Montgomery and Penland had 2 points each.

Ashville 42, Cherokee County 30

At home this past Monday, Ashville tuned up for the upcoming area tournament by upending Cherokee County 42-30.

Ashville led from start to finish as they were up 7-5 after the first quarter; 21-7 at halftime; and 37-9 after three quarters.

Ten Ashville players scored and leading the way was Bothwell with 10 points. Tipton pumped in 9 points while Penland added 6 points. Brooks totaled 4 points while Stephenson had 3 points. Coffee, Elders, Montgomery, O’Barr and Fuller had 2 points each.

Ashville will host the area tournament that starts tonight. The Lady Bulldogs play Oneonta at 7:30 p.m.
