Their stories are the “why” for the occasion, all the “Scruffies” and “Marleys” and “Phe Phes” out there who need homes and care.

And the more than 10 years that supporters of the Animal Shelter of Pell City have made the yearly Fur Ball a success are why so many of the ASPC’s sheltered animals have found their forever homes and care.

The yearly Fur Ball fundraiser comes your way this Friday night, with an antiques and collectibles auction, live entertainment a bona fide low country boil and much more starting at 5:30 p.m in downtown Pell City.

The theme is “Oh Give Me a Home,” and the event also celebrates May as “Be Kind to Animals Month.”

Activities center around David Tims Antiques Auction where dinner and the auction take place, along with “Yappy Hour” starting at 5:30 p.m.

Dinner and the auction preview begin at 6:30 p.m.

Individual tickets for the event are $40 and for couples attending, tickets are $75 for two.

Reservations are still available, call Pam Williams at 205/369-9395 or Pat Tucker at 205/863-0460 to make sure you’re on the list.

Steve Shafer will provide entertainment for the evening.

Among the offerings are lots of pieces of original art, vintage antiques and one of a kind items, along with some specialty items provided by local businesses and shelter supporters, Tucker said.

Those who would still like to offer items for the auction may contact Tucker or Williams, who promise there’s “something for everyone” in the auction.

“We have a wonderful array of things this year,” Tucker said.

Many of Pell City’s downtown shops will remain open late for the occasion, helping to celebrate the annual event.

These include Red Frog Boutique, La-Ti-Da, Artscapes Gallery, Judy’s Craft Mart, Monkey Bizniss, The Old Gray Barn, DeLain’s Fabrics and Uptown Girls.

ASPC holds the event to supply funding for its ongoing care animals housed at the shelter, for finding adoptive homes for animals and to support the ASPC’s “SNAPS” programs for low cost spay and neuter assistance.

Corporate sponsors, business sponsors and friends who reserve tickets or tables are invited to start the evening with Yappy Hour at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner and auction preview starting at 6:30 p.m.

Those who choose to become business or corporate sponsors also receive membership in ASPC and acknowledgement in the ASPC newsletter.

For contributions of $500, corporate sponsors receive seating and dinner for eight along with Yappy Hour admission and business sponsors with contributions of $300 receive seating and dinner for four along with Yappy Hour admission.

The Animal Shelter of Pell City is a 401 c 3 non profit organization.
