For the past year, Pell City’s Milea Hanner has represented St. Clair County as its Junior Miss. This Saturday, Hanner will relinquish her title to the 2011 St. Clair County Junior Miss, but the past year will be one she will always remember.

“Being St. Clair County’s Junior Miss for 2010 has been an amazing experience,” Hanner said. “After winning last August, I think I was in shock for about three days. I realized though that God had a purpose for me in this and I just wanted to glorify Him through it. He has blessed me so much with this program.”

Hanner said being Junior Miss has given her much.

“First of all, it has provided me with scholarships,” she said. “Last year, I won $3,950 in cash scholarships, and I am so thankful. Junior Miss is really all about helping deserving young women earn scholarships.

“Junior Miss has also helped me to develop personally. I learned many useful skills and, to me, the most significant one is how to interview. I know that in the future I will be able to walk into a job interview confident because of what I have learned through Junior Miss. I feel now that I know how to better represent myself to others. Junior Miss has helped me to strive to be the best I can be in every area.

“Also, I have had the opportunity to meet many great people. I have enjoyed getting to know the Junior Miss committee and the former Junior Misses. They are so sweet and supportive, and I love every one of them. I have made friends with a lot of the other contestants this past year, whether it was from the county program or state. They are all such wonderful people, and I am just so thankful that I know them and have developed relationships with them.

“Junior Miss has just been such a great part of my life. I am so thankful for the opportunities I have gained through this program. It has been a tremendous blessing and honor. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped me this past year. I am going to miss being St. Clair County’s Junior Miss, but I know God has something awesome in store for me and for this next Junior Miss.”

Hanner said she was excited about this year’s program.

“The girls have been working so hard, and I know they are going to do great,” Hanner said. “They are all awesome girls, and I cannot wait to see them Saturday night. I hope they have a ton of fun and cherish every minute of it.”

Carol Hornsby is chairman of the St. Clair County Junior Miss Scholarship Program.

“It has been a blessing to have Milea as our local Junior Miss representative this year,” said Hornsby. “She exemplifies what the national platform ‘Be Your Best Self’ is all about. Milea has helped our program tremendously with fundraising for scholarships, public relations and recruiting, and she always radiates a sweet disposition and Christ-like attitude in her day-to-day life. She has such a bright future ahead as she heads to Jacksonville State, and we are so proud of her stellar accomplishments.”
