PELL CITY — A Cook Springs man was flown by LifeSaver helicopter to University Hospital in Birmingham after a two-vehicle accident Wednesday.

Pell City Police Sgt. Alan Shaddix said the preliminary investigation shows that 37-year-old Douglas Shane Moss was traveling north along U.S. 231 in a Toyota pickup when he crossed the centerline and struck a Cadillac at approximately 12:50 p.m.

“The truck lost the left front wheel assembly,” Shaddix said. “The truck veered off the road and began rolling, partially ejecting (Moss).”

Shaddix said the accident occurred between Cropwell Drive and 19th Street on U.S. 231 South.

“(Moss) had life-threatening injuries and was taken by LifeSaver to UAB,” he said.

According to a representative at UAB Hospital, Moss was admitted Wednesday afternoon into the Intensive Care Unit, and was listed in “critical condition.”

Shaddix said the driver of the Cadillac had minor injuries and was transported by Regional Paramedical Services to St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital.

Shaddix said Moss was not wearing a seatbelt, but the driver of the Cadillac was wearing a seatbelt.

The accident is under investigation by the Pell City Police Department.
